The Six Navāṁśa Razors
Marriage, Renunciation & Spiritual Transmutation — an original forensic framework for examining the D9.
Research premise — One indication is a clue. Multiple independent indications become a pattern. Repeated convergence is where forensic Jyotiṣa begins.
Dedicated to my teacher, Marc Boney Guruji — with gratitude for his guidance, discipline, research spirit, and the many years of learning that shaped this work.

Dedication — To the Teacher, the Lineage & the Journey
A personal note. Whatever clarity has emerged through this work is inseparable from the guidance of teachers. I dedicate this study to Marc Boney Guruji, whose teaching encouraged me to look beyond isolated combinations and to study patterns through disciplined observation. I offer my reverence to the sages of Jyotiṣa, whose observations created a living tradition of timing, symbolism and inquiry. I also acknowledge every guru, teacher, friend, student and well-wisher whose questions, corrections and conversations helped sharpen my thinking. This article is therefore not presented as a final word. It is a research document — an attempt to arrange recurring observations into a transparent framework that can be questioned, tested and refined.
Why the Navāṁśa matters. Marriage, partnership, dharma and inner orientation are repeatedly examined through the Navāṁśa in traditional Jyotiṣa practice. The present framework narrows that larger field to one specific forensic question: when does the architecture of relationship repeatedly point away from ordinary worldly union and toward restraint, celibacy, renunciation, spiritual companionship or another transmuted expression of partnership?
Guiding principle — Do not judge marriage from one combination. Read the D1, D9, Jaimini indicators, daśā context and lived evidence as a connected system.
I. The Forensic Approach — From Combination to Convergence
The term "Razor" is used here as a research metaphor: each rule isolates a particular structural feature of the Navāṁśa that may weaken, redirect or transform the marriage principle. A Razor is not a verdict by itself. Within this exclusively-D9 forensic research, six independent diagnostic layers are examined. The strength of the framework lies in their convergence rather than in any single factor.
| Razor | Primary principle | Forensic question |
|---|---|---|
| Razor 1 | D9 7th house & 7th lord | Is the marriage axis structurally weakened? |
| Razor 2 | Moon–Saturn / Tapasya | Is emotional and sensual engagement being restrained? |
| Razor 3 | Svāṁśa 7th house | Does the deeper orientation redirect partnership? |
| Razor 4 | AK–DK relationship | Is the self–spouse axis under severe tension? |
| Razor 5 | AL–UL relationship | Is public identity decoupled from domestic partnership? |
| Razor 6 | Venus in D9 | Is desire being restricted or transmuted? |
Razor 1 — D9 7th Bhāva & 7th Lord: The Marriage Axis
Examine the 7th house and 7th lord of D9 before making any conclusion about marriage. In this framework the Razor is considered active when the marriage axis is repeatedly burdened by strong malefic influence, or when the 7th lord is placed in a difficult house such as the 6th, 8th or 12th of D9.
- Strong malefic occupation or severe malefic influence on the D9 7th house.
- D9 7th lord placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th.
- Multiple afflictions involving both the 7th house and its lord.
Interpretive note — A dusthāna connection does not automatically deny marriage. It describes how partnership may require conflict-resolution, sacrifice, service, transformation or withdrawal.
Cohort observation: 29 of 38 charts (76.3%) in the current spiritual-master cohort were recorded as activating this Razor.
Razor 2 — The Ascetic Manas: Moon–Saturn Tapasya
The second Razor shifts attention from the marriage axis to the Manas. The Moon is used to examine emotional responsiveness, attachment and subjective experience; Saturn introduces restraint, delay, austerity and detachment. The Razor becomes significant when the D9 Moon is strongly conditioned by Saturn, especially when that influence is supported by other restrictive factors.
- Saturn directly influences the D9 Moon through a classical aspect or a strong sign-based relationship.
- The Moon occupies a Saturn-ruled or Mars-ruled Navāṁśa and is additionally restrained by Saturn.
- The 7th from the D9 Moon contains Saturn, Mars or Ketu.
Forensic question — Does the mind naturally move toward attachment, or does it repeatedly move toward restraint, discipline and withdrawal?
A strong Moon–Saturn pattern is not synonymous with celibacy. Within a larger renunciation signature, however, it may describe the cooling, disciplining or redirection of emotional and sensual impulses toward tapasya, service, contemplation or another disciplined path.
Cohort observation: 24 of 38 charts (63.2%) were recorded as activating this Razor.
Classical orientation. This Razor draws conceptually from classical discussions of Saturn's effect on the Moon and from broader Jyotiṣa observations concerning mind, restraint and austerity. The six-Razor architecture itself is a modern analytical synthesis.
Razor 3 — Svāṁśa 7th House Siege: Ketu / Saturn and the Partnership Axis of Svāṁśa
The third Razor enters through Jaimini practice. Svāṁśa — the Navāṁśa sign occupied by the Ātmakāraka — is used as a reference point for the native's deeper orientation. Count the 7th from Svāṁśa and then examine whether that sign is occupied or strongly influenced by Ketu or Saturn.
- Ketu influencing the 7th from Svāṁśa may signify reduction of worldly attachment and a mokṣa-oriented direction.
- Saturn influencing the 7th may introduce austerity, delay, restraint or a highly disciplined form of partnership.
- The strongest readings arise when the Svāṁśa indication agrees with D9 7th-house and Venus findings.
Interpretive distinction — The question is not simply "Will there be a spouse?" but "What does the deeper orientation of the native do with the experience of partnership?" Within a larger renunciation pattern, partnership can appear in unusual forms: distance, celibacy, spiritual companionship, or a relationship where conventional domestic expression is secondary to dharma.
Cohort observation: 27 of 38 charts (71.1%) were recorded as activating this Razor.
Razor 4 — The Ātmakāraka–Dārakāraka Cleaver: Self vs. Spouse
The Ātmakāraka (AK) and Dārakāraka (DK) provide a useful Jaimini axis for this investigation. In the present framework, the Razor becomes active when the self-oriented and spouse-oriented significators repeatedly occupy difficult geometries, or when the DK is significantly weakened.
- Dvir-Dvādaśa (2/12): AK and DK occupy a mutually 2/12 relationship.
- Ṣaḍaṣṭaka (6/8): AK and DK occupy a 6/8 relationship.
- DK falls in the 6th, 8th or 12th from a relevant D9 reference point.
- DK is debilitated or strongly conditioned by Saturn or Ketu.
Forensic question — Can the partnership principle comfortably support the direction represented by the self?
A severe AK–DK conflict can describe a situation in which the native's central life orientation and conventional spouse-related karma do not easily integrate. Again, the geometry is diagnostic — not an automatic marital verdict.
Cohort observation: 30 of 38 charts (78.9%) were recorded as activating this Razor.
Razor 5 — Ārūḍha Lagna & Upapada Lagna
This layer examines the relationship between Ārūḍha Lagna (AL), used for manifested/public projection, and Upapada Lagna (UL), used in Jaimini marriage analysis. The forensic question is whether worldly identity and domestic partnership appear integrated or repeatedly decoupled.
- AL and UL in 2/12 or 6/8 relationships may show structural distance between the two domains.
- Ketu or Saturn on UL may add detachment, delay, austerity or an unconventional expression of partnership.
- The interpretation becomes stronger when D9 7th, Svāṁśa and Venus independently point in the same direction.
Cohort observation: all 38 charts (100%) in the specified spiritual-master cohort were recorded as activating this Razor. This is a sample statistic, not a population probability.
Razor 6 — Śukra: Desire & Its Transmutation
Venus is examined as a natural significator of attraction, pleasure, intimacy and relationship. In this framework, Venus becomes a key transmutation indicator when strongly restricted or redirected in D9.
- Venus conjoined Ketu.
- Venus conjoined Saturn.
- Venus debilitated in Virgo.
- Venus placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th of D9.
Key distinction — Renunciation is not always the absence of desire. In some charts, the pattern is better understood as the transformation of desire into bhakti, meditation, service, artistic devotion or disciplined spiritual practice.
Cohort observation: 15 of 38 charts (39.5%) were recorded as activating this Razor.
Synthesis — When the Six Razors Converge
The value of the framework lies in convergence. A single placement may describe delay, conflict, sacrifice or unusual partnership without denying marriage. The more independent layers repeat the same direction, the more carefully the astrologer should investigate whether relationship energy is being redirected.
| Active layers | Research reading |
|---|---|
| One Razor | A clue that requires corroboration. |
| Two Razors | A recurring theme; inspect D1 and life context. |
| Three or more | A strong pattern requiring cross-validation across D1, D9, Jaimini and daśā. |
| Multiple independent Razors + life evidence | A forensic case for a non-ordinary relationship expression — never a conclusion based on chart alone. |
A practical forensic sequence
- Establish the D1 promise before relying on D9 as an isolated chart.
- Read the D9 7th house and 7th lord.
- Read the Moon and the 7th from the Moon.
- Examine Svāṁśa and its 7th house.
- Check AK–DK geometry and DK strength.
- Examine AL–UL and Venus.
- Validate the pattern against daśā periods and documented life events.
Core principle — Do not count combinations mechanically. Measure convergence. The greater the independence of the confirmations, the stronger the research signal. "A chart may reveal relationship energy in forms that are wider than conventional marriage."
Karma Siddhānta — Karma Is Direction, Not Punishment
A Jyotiṣa reading becomes more meaningful when karma is understood as a principle of causation and consequence rather than as moral punishment. In that view, the chart is not a sentence imposed on the native; it is a symbolic map of tendencies, circumstances, choices and unfolding experience. Marriage, celibacy, renunciation and spiritual companionship should therefore not be reduced to labels of success or failure. Each can become a context in which karma is experienced, worked through, redirected or transformed.
Karma Siddhānta — "Karma is direction, not punishment. The chart describes tendencies and conditions; the human being still participates through choice, discipline, awareness and action."
When a relationship repeatedly fails to anchor the native in conventional domesticity, the forensic question is not "What is wrong?" It is "What form is this karma trying to take, and what evidence supports that reading?"
Research methodology note. The six-Razor structure is an original analytical synthesis informed by selected Parāśarī and Jaimini concepts. It should not be presented as a single six-part doctrine explicitly stated in one classical text. The cohort percentages belong to the specified 38-chart research sample and should not be read as general population probabilities. For rigorous use, each Razor should be tested against D1, D9, Jaimini factors, daśā timing, documented biography and, where possible, control charts. Replication and falsification are essential to turning an astrological observation into a stronger research claim.
Gratitude & Closing — With Reverence to the Lineage
I bow to the sages and teachers who preserved the language of Jyotiṣa through generations. I offer particular gratitude to Marc Boney Guruji. His guidance gave me a disciplined way to observe, question and refine rather than accept every combination merely because it appears in print. I also thank my friends, fellow students, students of mine, researchers and well-wishers who have shared charts, questions, corrections and honest disagreement. Every serious conversation improves the work.
A final reflection — The purpose of forensic Jyotiṣa is not to create fear from combinations. It is to observe patterns with humility, distinguish signal from assumption, and understand how karma may express itself through very different forms of life. The Six Navāṁśa Razors are therefore offered as a research framework: a structured way to look, compare, test and learn.
